Percentage of children 2-18 years of age who were diagnosed with pharyngitis, dispensed an antibiotic and received a group A streptococcus (strep) test for the episode.

Description and Implementation within the EMR software

Denominator: All patients aged 2-18 years with at least 1 encounter during the meaningful-use reporting period, having one of the J02.0, J02.8, J02.9, J03.00, J03.01, J03.80, J03.81, J03.90 or J03.91 ICD-10 codes selected for the episode in Assessment/Diagnosis section, and who were dispensed an antibiotic. UniCharts looks for the custom code QM002A: [Quality Measure] Pharyngitis antibiotic prescribed/dispensed (4120F), group A strep test not performed OR QM002B: [Quality Measure] Pharyngitis antibiotic prescribed/dispensed (4120F), group A strep test performed (3210F) OR QM002X: [Exclusion] Pharyngitis antibiotic already active since before 30 days of this patient encounter within the PROCEDURES/SERVICES section on the ENCOUNTER form as an indication of antibiotic treatment.

Numerator: Patients in the above mentioned list who also received a group A streptococcus test before or simultaneously to the antibiotic. UniCharts looks for the custom code QM002B: [Quality Measure] Pharyngitis antibiotic prescribed/dispensed (4120F), group A strep test performed (3210F) within the PROCEDURES/SERVICES section on the ENCOUNTER form as the required documentation.
