Low Back Pain: Use of Imaging Studies

Percentage of patients 18-50 years of age with a primary diagnosis of low back pain who did not have an imaging study (plain X-Ray, MRI, CT scan) within 28 days of diagnosis.

Denominator: All patients aged 18-50 years with at least 1 encounter during the meaningful-use reporting period and having one of the following ICD-10 codes selected in ASSESSMENT/DIAGNOSIS section on the ENCOUNTER form:
M47.26, M47.27, M47.28, M47.816, M47.817, M47.818, M47.896, M47.897, M47.898, M54.5, M54.89, M54.9

Numerator: Patients in the above mentioned list who did NOT have an imaging study within 28 days of diagnosis. UniCharts looks for the custom code QM052A: [Quality Measure] Patient has not had imaging study of low back within 28 days of diagnosis or QM052X: [Exclusion] Imaging study not done due to cancer or trauma or drug abuse or neurologic impairment within the PROCEDURES/SERVICES section on the ENCOUNTER form as the required documentation. If the imaging study for low back has been done today or within last 28 days, just select DISMISS option below.
