Locale Settings
The Locale Settings section is located under Clinics/Rooms tab on the EMR server. These settings allow the user to set chart indexing mode and define their location by entering country and state within the system.

As it can be seen above, the chart index can either be system generated ID numbers or patients' social security numbers. The default setting is for system generated chart ID numbers in which user provides patient's last and first names at the time of creating a chart and system automatically assigns an ID number to it. In the second option, a chart is created using patient's social security number and the patient's name is added to the chart along with other demographic information later on. If you are located in the United States, you may either use the default option or change it to the second option of "Use patient's social security number" if it better fits into your workflow. On the other hand, if you are located outside the USA then you should just retain the default option "Use system generated ID number" to index your patients.

The Locale Settings section also allows you to set default country and state within the system. All new charts would be created prefilled with country and state if you elect to preset this information.

The above screenshot shows how far it will go if you select USA as the default country. However, in case you select another country as your default then this information would also impact some other fields on the General form of charts. For instance, the SSN and ZIP code fields would automatically change to HCN (health card number) and Postal code respectively if you select Canada as your country.

Similarly, the SSN and ZIP code fields would automatically change to Patient ID and Postal code respectively if you select a country other than the USA or Canada as your default.
